71" long by 53" wide

Burntwater 71" long by 53" wide

No. RB * $3,750.00 SOLD

This rug is a hard-to-find treasure. Today's weavers are no longer weaving rugs using the desert color palette. Noted Navajo weaver Roselyn Begay, from the Canyon de Chelly area of the Navajo reservation in Arizona, made this fabulous Burntwater weaving. Roselyn is known for her fine quality Burntwaters. She finished weaving this piece in May, 1983. Roselyn weaves her fine quality rugs using handspun wool with vegetal dyes. In 1984 Dan Garland, one of the most respected rug traders and owner of Garland's Navajo Rugs in Sedona, where this rug was originally sold to its present owners, described this rug as one of the most intricate and finely woven Burntwaters he has ever handled. He also went on to describe this rug as one "of our all-time top quality weavings." Roselyn is listed in Gregory Schaaf's new book, American Indian Textiles. This is an 18 year old rug in very good condition, and it has an average weft count of 40.
