Eusebia is one of Zia's senior potters. Her grandchildren
took us to her house and showed us her pottery. When we returned
later that day and met Eusebia we were greeted at the door by
a delightful, lively woman. Eusebia told us how she makes her
pottery in the traditional hand-coiled way. Her grandchildren
showed us the yucca fibers that Eusebia uses to paint her pottery,
along with the minerals she grinds to make her paints. Eusebia
told us that she didn't know how much longer she could make pottery
because her eyesight was beginning to fail, and it was difficult
for her to get on her knees to grind and work the clay. Her pottery
is very well formed and painted with traditional Zia designs.
Eusebia's work is featured in Alan Hayes and John Blom's book,
"Southwestern Pottery."
