Acoma, located in New Mexico, south of I-40 between Grants and Albuquerque, is centered around Sky City, the old pueblo. Sky City claims to be the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the United States. Acoma has gained fame for its white, thin-walled pottery, finely painted. We feature some of the finest pottery of Acoma's star potters. While the best Acoma potters continue to make their pottery in the traditional manner of hand-coiling, smoothing and finishing, the lure of the kiln instead of the outdoor firing with sheep dung has become somewhat commonplace in Acoma.
